Product Description
A.C.T. 1 (Affective Cognitive Thinking)
by Nathan Levy
Grades: 2nd - 8th
Pages: 180
Thinking Strategies for the gifted in science, math, social studies, language arts, and fairy tales. This huge book uses subject areas familiar to children and then urges each child to practice creative concepts using questions and exercises to stimulate creative thinking in all subject areas.
Workbook of activities designed for Gifted Students based on cognitive thinking and affective process skills. Our position is that activities for gifted children must stress advanced conceptualization and the higher level thinking skills of interpretation, translation, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. These cognitive thinking skills and the affective process skills offer opportunity for original and elaborative thinking. Students will have to take risks by defending their own ideas or by taking guesses. They may seek alternatives to complex problems and must be willing to follow hunches, to wonder, or to play with ideas. Students will enjoy the opportunity to visualize, reach out, and dream about things that have never happened. These activities and thought questions urge new and unique combinations of existing elements to produce an original product.
The workbook may be done in any order. Many activity decisions can be based on content covered in the classroom or home school environment. Some of the activities may further explore personal or hobby interests. It will be helpful for you to use the record-keeping sheet by dating when the lesson is begun. Additional work pages have been added to complete many of the activities. Encourage the students to follow the ten guidelines given in the Student's Section, and always be ready for a new product that you did not expect or predict!
